Leadership Pill
“Always state a strength as a weakness if you are asked about your weakness!” stated our seniors as they guided me through my interviews. “No one wants to hear about your weaknesses!
This mantra ingrained in me as I got into that first job after my MBA
Once all us Managers attended a training session . We had to complete an exercise which the best team did in 10 sec while I was wondering , how the hell can it happen even in 1 hour ….To my horror I was made the team leader of my group .
This trainer pointed at me after 5 minutes of discussion and asked me “So Mr Leader , how are you going to do this ? “
My mind raced “ I cannot show my weakness – but somewhere my inner voice said , that is the damn truth “
So against all the years of training I said “ I have no clue by myself but my team has some ideas and we will figure how it can be done “
Later the group pointed at me saying that my honesty of not having all answers but confident that the team will help was one of their learnings.
At that point I didn’t understand it completely but over years it became clearer that it was fine to be vulnerable sometimes with your team like the way it is with family
So when did you last share your vulnerability ?
